Three Day Deschutes River Rafting Trips: Warm Springs to Sandy Beach

On this Oregon rafting trip we run the Upper Deschutes from the Warm Springs put in, to the Sandy Beach take out below Maupin.  The run is approximately 50 miles long and includes Trout Creek, White Horse, Buckskin Mary, Four Chutes, as well as Wapinitia, Box Car, Surf City, Oak Springs, and Elevator Rapids.  In camp, the All Star staff takes care of all the cooking and cleaning, all you have to do is enjoy the view!  Our meals are healthy and delicious, and our expert guides ensure that your group has a wonderful camping/rafting experience in this beautiful desert canyon. 

DAY 1: We meet at the All Star office in Maupin at 9:00 am (many groups arrive the night before and stay at a local camp ground or lodge), load personal gear into dry bags and take care of last minute details.  The day begins with a one hour ride to the put in, an orientation talk and an introduction to boating skills. We travel approximately 12 miles the first day with a stop for lunch, about 3 hours total on the water.  Camp is along the river where we enjoy a fine dinner and zillions of stars!  We encourage you to bring a small musical instrument or game for the whole group to play. 

DAY 2: We start with a relaxing morning and a big breakfast, followed by a full day of fun and great scenery. Our time on the river will be about 6 hours, approximately 20 miles.  You’ll have the opportunity to swim, water fight, or try out one of the inflatable kayaks today.  Camp is along the river.

DAY 3: After a hearty breakfast, we’ll break camp and head down river to the main white water section (this day has lots of action).  Our day will be interspersed with rapids, calm pools and scenic countryside.  We reach the take out in Maupin at Sandy Beach around 4:00pm.  We provide transportation back to the All Star office where you can get changed and organized for your trip home.

To reach Maupin travel east on Hwy. 26 from Portland, south on Hwy. 197 from The Dalles or north on Hwy. 197 from Madras.

From Portland take Hwy. 26 sixteen miles past Government Camp to a left turn on Hwy 216. Go 26 miles to a stop sign and turn right on Hwy. 197. Go 3 miles into Maupin where we are located on the right side of the road in downtown at 405 Deschutes Ave. (Deschutes Ave is Hwy 197). Allow 2 to 2.5 hours travel time.

From the Dalles go south on Hwy. 197 forty-two miles to Maupin. We are located on the right side of the road in downtown Maupin at 405 Deschutes Ave. (Deschutes Ave is Hwy 197). Allow 1 hour travel time.

From Madras go north on Hwy. 97 to Hwy. 197 to Maupin. As you come to the base of the hill and enter Maupin, cross the bridge and continue up into town on Hwy. 197. We are located on the left side of the road in downtown at 405 Deschutes Ave. (Deschutes Ave is Hwy 197). Allow 1 to 1.25 hours travel time.
